IRMO was pleased to be invited to speak at a panel hosted by the Policy Institute at King’s College London on the growing crisis of child homelessness in the UK.
The discussion brought together campaigners, researchers and journalists to explore how homelessness and temporary accommodation are affecting children’s education, health and development, and what action is needed to address this crisis.
Drawing on our frontline work, we shared insights on how temporary accommodation and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) are impacting migrant families across London. We highlighted the barriers many of our service users face in accessing support, as well as the cumulative impact of insecure housing and immigration status on children and families.
We also set out the changes we believe are needed from local authorities and national government to better protect families and prevent avoidable harm.
